Open House + Tips For Next Year

Hey guys! So, I talked to Ms. Krasnow at Open House tonight. She is going to be our Geometry teacher next year. Good news: she seems really nice. Bad news: she said that your grades will probably drop one level next year because there is a jump from kind of hard math (that's right now) to super hard math (next year). So. Here are some tips to help you guys:

1. KEEP YOUR NOTES*. That green book thing we have from Mr. Ragent? Keep it. Notes on loose paper? Keep 'em. That red homework workbook thing? Keep it. And do the work. Keep it all. Because next year, the placement test for Berkeley High covers Geometry and Algebra. And also, you need algebra for geometry, so if you don't have algebra, geometry is going to be so much harder.

2. GET YO' SHIZZ TOGETHER. Sorry. Do you understand all the Algebra material "pretty well"? Not fine. You need to have it down. You need to have it SO down that it's underground. If you are getting 3's right now, next year you might drop down to 2's, at least in the beginning. Really step it up in this last stretch of the year and start getting as many fours as you can. If you are getting consistent fours by the end of the year, it is probable that you will be getting 3-4's next year.

3. DON'T FORGET. Over the summer, you will probably forget everything you learned this year. You can not let that happen. Ms. Krasnow said that she will be coming into class towards the end of the year to give us some practice work to do over the summer. Ugh, I know right? Well sure, you know it now, but will you remember it when summer is over? During the summer, try to do 10+ math problems each week. A good place to find Algebra problems is at Kuta Software Infinite Algebra. They have free worksheets, though there is really no need to print them out.

I hope this is helpful. I know that this all sounds like a lot of hard work that is going to suck. It will be hard, and there will be a lot of work, but we are friends who are all (hopefully) very committed, and we are going to make it at least a tiny bit fun and enjoyable.

Bottom line: amp up you understanding and practice, practice, practice.

* I am planning to get a filing cabinet or a big box or something to keep all my math stuff in starting this year. I suggest you guys do the same thing: all your math organized and in one place.
